Toy story 3

Date: 26 June 2010

Cinema: Tiong Bahru Golden Village

Accompany: Justin, Eric and Eugene

It sometimes takes a lot of effort to restart your “engine” if you haven’t been writing for a very long time, and this is probably the reason why it took me so long to write after watching toy story.

Ok so let’s get back to the movie. Toy story 3: another children movie suitable for kids and the whole family. Toy story 3 is an easy to understand movie, despite the fact that I know nuts about toy story 1 and 2.

Overview

The movie revolves around Andy and his toys. By now Andy is already a grown up and he no longer plays with his toys. On the other hand, Andy’s toy’s are trying to get Andy’s attention, hoping he will pick them up again someday, or at least keep them in the attic. However, accidents happen and that is where the adventure starts.

What’s interesting?

Firstly, you get to see the different abilities different toys have, spring dogs, robots, cow boys and girls and even Barbie dolls etc. you get to know that appearance can be deceiving, what seems nice and friendly can be evil beneath. I’m not sure if this is the message that the movie wants to bring across to the kids, but I sure can see that.

Well…for a kiddo movie (like what my god brother used to call me) like that, I’m surprise to learn a lot from it. If you love something or somebody, perhaps the best thing is to let go. If you know you can’t provide what is needed, why hold on when you know there is someone who can provide a much better offer?

The Karate Kid (the movie that introduces violent to kids)

Date: 10 June 2010

Cinema: AMK Hub Cathay

Accompany: Melissa and Peishan

The Karate Kid: 2 KungFu movies in a row, I must be really crazy. Anyway, this is KungFu movie about an American black kid who move to china with his mom and got bullied by the kids there. Along the way, he learns martial art from the strange guy (Jacky Chan) and defeated the kids in the tournament.

What is probably interesting about the movie is that the movie portrays the different cultures of the east and the west. Putting the martial arts aside, it is an interesting movie for those who want to have a laugh at the conflicts of the different culture.

I must also agree that the fighting scenes are also fascinating, with a touch of emotion from the Dre and Mr Han.

It’s probably a good movie to watch with a big group of friends. But I personally think it’s not suitable for young kids. (unless you want your kids to get violent=))

IP Man 2

Surprise surprise, it’s more than 5 months since I last watch a movie, and never did I expect to watch a movie like IP man 2. To keep it short, I went to watch this movie with 2 friends at Junction 8 GV.

Well, let’s talk about what IP man 2 is all about. IP man 2 is a continuum from IP man 1 (although, I never watch IP man 1 before). This time round, Mr. IP starts his career in Hong Kong setting up his martial art training school in HK, along the way, he met his first student “Wang Liang” and Master Hong, who appear as a big bully in the beginning but turn up to be Mr. Upright who fought to defend his own race.

What is good about the movie is that despite the fact that there is a lot of fighting scene in the movie, unlike most KungFu movie, the movie actually have a storyline in it! Furthermore as you watch the movie, not only do you follow the movie blindly, you actually get drawn into the movie. You get remorseful for Mr. Hong’s death; you get angry for how the British are treating the locals and more importantly you get so tense up worrying about the battle between Mr. IP battle with Twister (the actor really did a good job in portraying how arrogant and proud this is).

A movie worth to watch, despite my perception against KungFu movie=)

Planet 51

Date: 20 December 2009

Cinema: The Cathy

Accompany: Edmund

Planet 51: another typical American cartoon comedy. The story takes a different position where humans are the “aliens”. In this case, Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker, an American landed on a foreign planet, where the population have a misconception that aliens only invade planets, take control of the population and eat their brains.

The good thing about the movie is that these movies always end with a happy ending. The typical endings that I prefer, where Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker gets back to his planet, Lem becomes the big hero and is attached to Neera, General Grawl change his perception about humans (or should I call aliens).

What is probably fascinating and attractive about the show is probably how humorous the different characters are: the alien dog chasing the alien postman, the robot dog collecting rocks and acting like Wal-E etc.

In summary, this movie is probably one where u can bring the whole family along or just looking for some simple comedy.

Julie & Julia

Date: 18 October 2009
Cinema: Iluma
Accompany: GGY, Cindee, Melanie and Ying Ying

Ok, let’s get back to business on writing. This is the first entry on this blog: Julie & Julia. This is a comedy but it means more than just a comedy, it’s an inspiring movie that inspires me to look positively to life.

One might wonder, how can a stupid comedy inspire a person to look at things positively? Well… the answer is pretty simple, look at what I am doing now? I AM BLOGGING. That is the effect of “Julie and Julia”.

“Julie and Julia” is based on a true story, or I shall say it’s based on 2 true stories. The film depicts the story of Julia Child, the famous chef, in her early years in her culinary career. On the other side of the story, Julie Powell was drowning and Julie “pull” her out of the ocean. She was inspired to cook all 524 recipes from Child's cookbook in a single year.

Looking at the way Julia lead her life, the positive attitude she have towards everything makes me feel that life isn’t that dark and dull after all. Furthermore, watching how Julie is inspire by Julia makes one feel that life is exciting and happy again, so long as you have a goal in mind or an idol you look forward to. I must say, I am really touched by the show :)

To all who haven’t watched the movie, go watch it! And Bon Appetite!

Preface

One might wonder why I will start a new blog since the trend of blogging is already dying. Well I am clueless about it too. Lol. But I guess what ignite the passion to push the great inertia in my inner heart is the thought of preserving memories.

Let’s picture it, every December when you start to sit down and think back of what you have done for the year. You notice that you can’t recall a single thing except for… probably what you ate yesterday.

So perhaps one of the best solutions is to blog about the movies I watch. Every movie should have a significant meaning to every individual. No matter whether it’s the story line, the sound effect, the cinema, the person you went to watch with or the total time of the movie. Every movie is just different. So I am hoping to document every single movie I watch to remember the special meaning and feeling I have for that period.

Enjoy the Journey!
